Sintered Mesh Cylindrical Filters | Sintered Mesh Filter Cartridges
Sintered Mesh Cylindrical Filters are high-performance filtration elements manufactured through a diffusion bonding process. Multiple layers of precisely woven stainless steel wire mesh are stacked in a specific sequence and fused together under high temperature and pressure in a vacuum or controlled atmosphere furnace. This creates a monolithic, porous metal structure where the layers are permanently metallurgically bonded, eliminating the risk of delamination. The resulting medium integrates a protective surface layer, one or more precision control layers, and a structural support layer into a single, rigid entity, offering an optimal combination of absolute surface retention and depth loading capacity.
Advantages of Sintered Mesh Cylindrical Filters
- High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Provides robust performance in a relatively lightweight component.
- Permanent Pore Structure: Pore size remains stable and will not migrate or change under normal operating conditions.
- Excellent for High-Purity Applications: The cleanable, inert surface is ideal for pharmaceutical, food, and semiconductor processes.
- Long Operational Life: Withstands repeated cleaning cycles, offering a low total cost of ownership.
Specification of Sintered Mesh Cylindrical Filters
- Standard Material: AISI 316L is the industry benchmark for its excellent all-around corrosion resistance.
- Alternative Alloys: AISI 304, Duplex (2205, 2507), Super Duplex, Hastelloy (C276, B2), Monel, Inconel.
- Typical Layered Structure: Commonly configured as 3-layer, 5-layer, or 7-layer composites. Combinations often include:
- Protective Layer: A coarse Dutch weave or plain weave for initial capture and media protection.
- Control Layer(s): One or more layers of fine Dutch weave or twill weave for primary absolute filtration.
- Support Layer: A heavy, coarse plain weave providing fundamental mechanical strength.
- Filtration Rating: 1 micron to 200 microns (absolute, typically based on bubble point test).
- Standard Wall Thickness: Ranges from 1.0 mm to 3.5 mm, providing depth for contaminant entrapment.
- Operating Temperature Range: Continuous service up to 600°C for 316L; specific limits vary by alloy.
- Standard Dimensions: Outer Diameters from 15 mm to 500 mm; Lengths from 20 mm to 1500 mm. Custom sizes are feasible.
- End Connections & Sealing: Standard industrial interfaces include DIN 226/222 with O-ring grooves, ANSI/ASA flanges, male/female NPT/BSP threads, and custom weld-prep ends. Seals are typically elastomeric O-rings (Viton, EPDM) or metal-to-metal.
Applications of Sintered Mesh Cylindrical Filters
- Polymer Melt Filtration: Critical for protecting spinnerets in fiber production, screen packs in extruders, and gear pumps.
- High-Temperature Gas Filtration: Used in process gas lines, fluidized bed inlets, compressor protection, and vent recovery systems.
- Chemical & Petrochemical Processing: Filtration of aggressive acids, alkalis, solvents, and catalyst slurry recovery.
- Hydraulic & Fuel Systems: High-pressure final polishing filters for critical machinery and aerospace applications.
- Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology: Sterile venting of tanks, filtration of process gases, and purification of process fluids.
