Wedge Wire Lateral Assemblies | Screen Laterals | Hub and Header Lateral Assembly
Wedge Wire Lateral Assemblies are critical internal components used in pressure and gravity filtration systems, particularly in sand filters, multimedia filters, ion exchange vessels, and water treatment tanks. Installed at the bottom or side of filter vessels, lateral assemblies are designed to evenly collect filtered water or uniformly distribute backwash flow, ensuring stable system performance and preventing media loss.
Manufactured from precision profile wire (wedge wire) welded to support rods, wedge wire lateral assemblies feature continuous slot openings that provide accurate filtration, high open area, and excellent mechanical strength. Compared with perforated pipe or slotted pipe laterals, wedge wire laterals offer superior flow efficiency, longer service life, and reduced clogging risk.
These assemblies are widely used in water treatment plants, desalination systems, industrial process filtration, power generation, and chemical processing, where reliability and hydraulic performance are essential.
Advantages of Wedge Wire Lateral Assemblies
- Uniform Flow Distribution
Continuous V-shaped slot openings ensure even collection and backwash distribution, preventing dead zones and media fluidization issues. - High Mechanical Strength
Fully welded construction provides excellent resistance to pressure, vibration, and thermal stress. - Anti-Clogging Design
The wedge wire profile creates a self-cleaning effect, reducing particle lodging and extending operating cycles. - Accurate Slot Control
Slot sizes can be precisely controlled, preventing filter media loss while maintaining high flow capacity. - High Open Area
Compared with perforated pipe laterals, wedge wire laterals offer significantly higher open area, reducing pressure drop and energy consumption. - Long Service Life
Manufactured from corrosion-resistant metals, wedge wire lateral assemblies perform reliably in aggressive chemical and high-temperature environments.
Specification of Wedge Wire Lateral Assemblies
Single Wedge Wire Laterals Specifications
Single wedge wire laterals are individual lateral elements installed directly into a header, hub, or distributor plate. This flexible design allows for customized layouts and is particularly suitable for retrofit projects or systems requiring selective replacement of laterals. With precise slot control and a robust welded structure, single wedge wire laterals provide reliable filtration performance while simplifying installation and maintenance.

Hub and Header Lateral Assembly
Hub & Spoke Lateral Assembly
The hub & spoke lateral assembly features multiple wedge wire laterals radiating from a central hub, forming a compact and hydraulically balanced underdrain system. Commonly used in circular pressure vessels, this design delivers uniform flow distribution during both filtration and backwashing while optimizing space utilization. The hub & spoke configuration is especially effective for medium to large filter vessels where consistent performance and structural stability are critical.
Header & Lateral Assembly
The header & lateral assembly consists of a central header pipe connected to multiple wedge wire laterals arranged across the vessel floor. This configuration is widely used in large sand filters and multimedia filtration systems, as it ensures uniform collection and backwash distribution over the entire filter area. The high open area of the wedge wire laterals minimizes pressure drop while maintaining excellent media retention, making this assembly ideal for high-flow and heavy-duty water treatment applications.
