Wedge Wire Cylindrical Filters

Wedge Wire Cylindrical Filters | Wedge wire filter elements

Wedge Wire Cylindrical Filters are constructed from V-shaped (wedge) wires welded onto a framework of longitudinal support rods. This creates a cylindrical screen with continuous, precise, and uniform slots along its length. The unique wedge wire profile, wider at the base and narrowing at the apex, provides a non-clogging slot that promotes self-cleaning and offers exceptional structural strength for demanding mechanical and hydraulic applications.

Advantages of Wedge Wire Cylindrical Filters

  • V-Shape Profile (Keystone): The wire creates a slot that widens inwardly. This means any particle that can pass the surface opening flows freely through, preventing clogging or blinding (“plugging”).
  • Continuous Slot: Provides a large effective open area and very low hydraulic resistance.
  • Flow Direction: Can be designed for FOTI (Flow Out-to-In) or FITO (Flow In-to-Out).
  • Precise, Continuous Slot Opening: Provides accurate, absolute size exclusion from 30 μm up to 5 mm.
  • Extreme Mechanical Strength: Designed for high collapsing pressure, impact, and abrasion resistance.

Specification of Wedge Wire Cylindrical Filters

  • Materials: SS304, SS316/L, Duplex/Super Duplex steels, Hastelloy, Carbon steel.
  • Slot Size: Defined as the gap at the narrowest point, standard from 30 μm (0.03mm) to 5000 μm (5mm).
  • Wire Profile: Various wedge dimensions (e.g., 1.5mm x 3mm) to achieve desired slot size and strength.
  • Flow Direction: Standard outside-in flow (capture on outer surface), or inside-out flow for specific applications like centrifuge liners.
  • Dimensions: OD from 25 mm to over 800 mm; Lengths from 50 mm to 3000+ mm.
  • Connections: Can be fitted with any standard flange, thread, or custom mounting system.

Applications of Wedge Wire Cylindrical Filters

  • Water Intake & Treatment: River/lake intake screens, seawater filtration, well screens, and sieve drums.
  • Pulp & Paper: Stock preparation, screen baskets, and deckers.
  • Food & Beverage: Filtering starch, sugar, fruit juices, and brewing products.
  • Mining & Minerals: Dewatering, sizing, and tailings management.
  • Petrochemical: Scrubber internals, catalyst retention, and sand control.
