Sintered Nickel Fiber Felt | High Conductivity & Corrosion-Resistant Porous Media
Sintered nickel fiber felt is a high-performance porous metal felt produced from ultra-fine nickel fibers (purity ≥ 99.5 %) via a non-woven laying process followed by ultra-high-temperature vacuum sintering.
The resulting material features a 3D interconnected mesh-like porous structure, offering high porosity, large specific surface area, uniform pore distribution, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, strong corrosion resistance and high mechanical support capability.
Compared to conventional nickel mesh or nickel foam, nickel fiber felt offers superior depth-filtration, higher flexibility, better permeability and longer service life in demanding applications.
Advantages of Sintered Nickel Fiber Felt
- High porosity — Porosity ranges from ~50% up to ~94% depending on grade.
- Wide micron rating — Filtration ratings from ~3 µm up to ~100 µm available.
- Superior conductivity — Excellent electrical and thermal conductivity make it suitable for electrode/support media.
- High corrosion & oxidation resistance — Nickel base material delivers strong chemical stability in acid, alkali and elevated-temperature environments.
- Mechanical strength & support structure — Higher tensile strength compared to nickel foam (e.g., ~5-8 MPa vs ~0.1-1.5 MPa).
- Flexible and customizable geometries — Can be processed into sheets, discs, rounds, custom shapes, filter elements with specified thickness and unit weight.

Applications of Sintered Nickel Fiber Felt
Thanks to its combination of porosity, conductivity, corrosion/temperature resistance, the nickel fiber felt finds use in multiple demanding areas:
- Electrode substrate / gas diffusion layer (GDL) in hydrogen fuel-cell or PEM water-electrolysis systems.
- Catalyst support and carrier media in chemical reactors, especially where high surface area and conductive support matter.
- Thermal insulation and high-temperature filtration media in industrial furnaces, heat-treatment plants (withstanding high T up to 1000 °C+).
- Filtration of powders, polymers (polyamide, polypropylene, nylon), ultra-filtration support systems.
- Aerospace, nuclear emissions filters, hydraulics, fuel systems, where robust metal filtration is required.
