Stainless Steel Sintered Fiber Felt

Stainless Steel Sintered Fiber Felt | High-Porosity Metal Filter Media

Stainless steel sintered fiber felt is manufactured from ultra-fine stainless steel fibers (commonly SUS 304 or SUS 316L) which are non-woven laid, laminated and then diffusion bonded via high-temperature vacuum sintering. The result is a three-dimensional, networked porous structure with high strength, uniform pore distribution and excellent permeability.

Compared with traditional woven metal meshes, this material overcomes drawbacks such as easy clogging or damage, and for filter papers/cloths the weakness in high temperature, high pressure or corrosive media.

This makes stainless steel sintered fiber felt an ideal filter medium for demanding industrial filtration and separation applications.

Advantages of Stainless Steel Sintered Fiber Felt

  • High porosity (typically around 75 %–85 %) enabling large flow and low pressure drop.
  • Uniform pore size distribution, enabling reliable filtration and high dirt holding capacity (depth filtration).
  • Excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance, and stable performance under high temperature (resistance up to ~1000 °C in some cases) and pressure conditions.
  • Good mechanical strength and structural integrity; can be welded or machined into complex shapes (plates, discs, tubes, cartridges).
  • Reusable and cleanable: can be back-washed, pulse-cleaned, or otherwise regenerated, offering longer service life compared with conventional filter media.

Specification of Stainless Steel Sintered Fiber Felt

  • Material: Stainless steel fiber (e.g., SUS 304, SUS 316L)
  • Porosity: ~75 %–78 % in many standard grades.
  • Thickness: Typical 0.3 mm – 0.68 mm in sheet form.
  • Filter rating (µm): depending on fiber diameter and sintering/bonding parameters — e.g., model SSSFP5 rated ~4.0-6.0 µm, SSSFP40 >35.0-45.0 µm.
  • Air permeability, bubble point, dirt holding capacity vary by grade (see manufacturer datasheet).

Applications of Stainless Steel Sintered Fiber Felt

The versatility of stainless steel sintered fiber felt enables usage in a wide range of industries and filtration scenarios:

  • Polymer melt filtration and resin purification in plastics processing.
  • Filtration of refining streams, pre-filtration for ultra-filtration systems in petrochemical and chemical plants.
  • High-temperature gas dust removal (e.g., industrial exhaust, hot gas filtration).
  • Liquid purification in the pharmaceutical, petroleum, beverage, biotechnology sectors.
  • Hydraulic oil and lubrication system filtration in heavy-duty equipment, automotive and aerospace sectors.
  • Filter media support, catalyst carrier structures, gas diffusion layers (GDL) for fuel-cell or electrochemical systems.
